Rep. Megan Cotter speaking to Eath Day gathering

We had great turnout at our Earth Day celebration yesterday at Higher Grounds! While the rain kept us indoors for coffee, we heard from Representative Megan Cotter from District 39 on her new Green Bond initiative, and Liz Beretta Perik, the chair for the Rhode Island Democratic party. Check out our Earth Day picture gallery!

While Senator Whitehouse had planned to join us, he had to remain in DC today to vote for a number of key bills, including the critical foreign aid legislation that has been in the spotlight this past week. We’ll look for another opportunity to bring him out to Richmond.

Yesterday, we were also joined by Representative Victoria Gu from District 38, Councilmember Wilcox from Richmond, Chariho Committee members Jessica Purcell and Karen Reynolds, and a number of folks from the Richmond, Hopkinton, and Charlestown communities.

For those looking for a sunnier day to help with clean-up, the Richmond Conservation Commission is still hosting their Earth Day clean-up today – sign up with your group and pick up your clean-up kit at the Richmond Town Hall.

Scott Barber at Community Conversations

We had a wonderful Community Conversation with Scott Barber, Richmond-Carolina Fire Chief and Director of Public Works. Mr. Barber brought along Junior Lieutenant of the junior fire members, Ava.

We were delighted to hear about the multi-generational learning and experience that is building the current and future fire force in Richmond.

Mr. Barber shared his in-depth knowledge and perspective about Richmond Public Works, an aspect of our town that often flies under the radar given the importance of the work.

Big thanks to Mr. Barber, Ava, the Clark Memorial Library -- Richmond, RI and all who participated!
